It was "Surrealistic Pillow" by the Jefferson Airplane, in 1966

Same here. I think the first album I bought was Meet the Beatles in 1965. Bought it at Woolworths, and I think it was mono.

By the time the cook tells the crew "it's been good to know ya", I have tears in my eyes but they aren't from the tragedy of the story!
^^^^^^^

I agree. However, whenever 'Sundown' gets aired I'm happy to listen.

BTW, my big sister bought the 'Ballad of Bonnie and Clyde' by Georgie Fame and when it got to the bit about them dying, it used to trouble me, being of tender years.

In terms of freak purchases, I bet all those cool Bowie fans who rushed out and bought 'The laughing Gnome' just to have 'the complete works' question their wisdom.

First LP, "Blizzard of Ozz" (in 1980)
First 45, "Le Freak" by Chic (in 1978)
First CD, (I think) "Little Creatures" by Talking heads (1985)

Does anybody remember the LAST LP they bought?
I believe mine was Whose Last.

Too long ago to remember a single "first" but the collection started with "Disraeli Gears" by Cream, "Weasels Ripped My Flesh" by The Mother's of Invention, "Music From the Big Pink" by The Band, all the Beatles Albums, and early Buffalo Springfield and CSNY stuff.

All that was in the mid to late 1960's, and then it was Pink Floyd's "Dark Side of the Moon" a bunch of Alman Brothers stuff, Traffic and the Who well into the 1970's.
