My wife and I went on a western Carribean (pronounced Kara- bee-an, not Ka-ribby-an)cruise last year with stops in Key West and, of all places, Cocoa Beach!
I was excited about the the Cocoa Beach stop because I wanted to see Major Anthony Nelson's house.
There WAS a bus to the space center at Cape Canaveral but we didn't have the time to make that worthwhile. There was another bus that went into town.
The bus only made 3 stops.
1. WalMart: Here's where all the cruise line employees (folks from ALL over the world) got off.
2. The Mall: Here's where most of the cruise passengers got off. I couldn't understand why anyone would want to get off one of the world's largest floating buffets to eat lunch at Ruby Tuesdays but whatever...?
3. Cocoa Beach! The REAL reason we took the bus.
EVERY trip I've ever made to Florida, I 've tried to convince my fellow travelers to stop at Ron-Jon's® Surf Shop. For 30 years, no one wanted to go a stoopid hour out of their way to indulge my desire for a Ron-Jon's® tee shirt. I finally made it there and WHAT a combination tourist trap/Pro shop! I'm not a surfer but that place made me wish I was! As for all those folks who never wanted to go with me to this place? My wife bought them Ron-Jon's® coffee mugs with their names on them.
There's no justice in the world.
On the other hand...Key West has kindled a new fire in me.
Go to Lorton, Virginia and load the 107 (sans hardtop) on the auto train. Book a personal cabin (with bathroom) and ride down to Sanford, Florida. Unload the 107. Put top down. Drive to Key West and get a Sloppy Joe. <sigh>
