Bush's plan, more meat for the meat grinder.

Bush 'to reveal Iraq troop boost'
By Justin Webb
BBC News, Washington

Mr Bush has come under pressure to change his strategy on Iraq
US President George W Bush intends to reveal a new Iraq strategy within days, the BBC has learnt.

The speech will reveal a plan to send more US troops to Iraq to focus on ways of bringing greater security, rather than training Iraqi forces.

The move comes with figures from Iraqi ministries suggesting that deaths among civilians are at record highs.

The US president arrived back in Washington on Monday after a week-long holiday at his ranch in Texas.

The BBC was told by a senior administration source that the speech setting out changes in Mr Bush's Iraq policy is likely to come in the middle of next week.

Its central theme will be sacrifice.

The speech, the BBC has been told, involves increasing troop numbers.

The exact mission of the extra troops in Iraq is still under discussion, according to officials, but it is likely to focus on providing security rather than training Iraqi forces.

The proposal, if it comes, will be highly controversial.

Already one senior Republican senator has called it Alice in Wonderland.

The need to find some way of pacifying Iraq has been underlined by statistics revealed by various ministries in the Iraqi government, suggesting that well over 1,000 civilians a month are dying.

Recall that earlier generations faced down fascism and communism not just with missiles and tanks, but with sturdy alliances and enduring convictions. They understood that our power alone cannot protect us, nor does it entitle us to do as we please. Instead, they knew that our power grows through its prudent use; our security emanates from the justness of our cause, the force of our example, the tempering qualities of humility and restraint.

We must go along. The poor man's legacy is at stake, after all.

Doesn't anyone remember the lessons of Vietnam?

Escalation doesn't work. Didn't then; won't now.

People's memory is only 1 mm long. And no, most pro-war idiots don't remember that.

No war = no career soldiers = no escape from ghettos = no chest pumping self proclaimed patriots = no movies for Hollywood

I remember Vietnam well--especially those horrible scenes of helicopters landing on the US Embassy roof trying to evacuate hundreds of our people before the VC stormed the gates. It was one of the worst memories of that fiasco I can imagine. The war no one wanted to win and no one was willing to stand up and do the right thing. It was NOT sending in enough troops in to WIN that cost us that war, and you idiots want to repeat that cut-and-run tragedy! I think it is YOU who don't remember Vietnam or choose not understand what happened! We cannot afford to repeat that disaster in Iraq, and President Bush is not likely to let us.

Don't believe everything you think

He got us into this shit in the first place. He naively chose to occupy a country that is too primitive for democracy. He chose not to send in enough intially to do the cruel job that must be done as Sadam did. He chose not to fight in vietnam himself. He chooses not to listen to the American people and their wishes who elected him to his office. He chooses to kill more Americans so that his legacy is not that of an ignorant dupe. He is a mean, selfish, little man, out of touch with reality.

And all the people like you who believe war is necessary (it is, just not here like this) stand firmly entrenched on patriotic footing and absolutely refuse to see anything you may think unamerican.

Define "winning" in Vietnam. Defeat of the North, followed by occupation? You think the Iraqis are bad, they would have stuck one so far up our ass we would still be there bleeding like fucking pigs. You idiots can't get it through your thick skulls that we cannot solve the world's political problems with armies and bullets.

The stupid fuckers simply assumed everything and planned nothing. They could have just shot 3,000 of our kids instead and gotten it over with.

Aside from the fact that what you say is total Bull Shit, we are, as you say "into this," and to not finish the job would be reckless and dangerous.
