The Graves replica watch is actually not expensive at all.
Here is the link if you want one (this is the one I have):
http://www.stauer.com/?sectionpath=1&pageid=336

Update: That Stauer watch is a piece of shit. I got it for New Year last night as a delayed Christmas present. It would stop working after I set it, wind it and put it in motion to recharge. I had to set it like ten times and then it always dies with the minute sweeper dead on on the same spot. I called their 800 number but they are closed of course. I got hosed.

Rolex, schmolex. Impress me by recognizing my 44mm ORIS Automatic Worldtimer. And my old Buame & Mercier automatic Capeland Chrono would out class your Rollie any day. No, seriously, I respect Rolex. They set the bar and still make world class watches. However, you can run down to the Wal-Mart set and the girl working layaway will do back flips over Rolex just like the old-money Hampton set will do a back flip over Rolex. Walk in wearing a Panerai Luminor and niether one will recognize the precision on your wrist. Or lets put it like this; a broad spectrum of people will e impressed when you roll up in a BMW 5 series. Most of that same spectrum won't have a clue when you roll up in a 1993 500E. And if you're reading this and YOU don't know the signifcance of the 500E, you probably lust for a Rolex.

44mm? Even a defensive lineman doesn't have a wrist big enough to look anything other than goofy wearing a 44mm watch. There's a reason RGM refused to make anything bigger than 41mm even on commission.

Why not do the reverse and get the "real" Fauxlex Rolex: A Tudor. Case, face, band, everything EXCEPT the movement is 100% Rolex made. Looks like a Rolex, because it IS a Rolex, except for the Japanese heart ticking inside. http://www.tudorwatch.com/home_en.html

I beg to differ. It admit that it MIGHT seem large, it it wasn't for the size of my chain. Or the "defensive linemanishness" of my stature. ORIS Pointer Day Date pictured. My e'ryday quartz Zodiac Desert Hawk is kind of small at 42 mm. Pretty wimpy, if you ask me. And as for Roland Murphy over at RGM, he better remember he's an American watch maker in a sea full of Swiss fishes and cash that check and make that big ole watch!

I think you're the first person I've seen who can actually do a 44mm watch, though I still think slightly smaller would be better. Also remember though that RGM takes Swiss movements and supes them up.

The watches of Glashuette were used as valuta in the days of the cold war and the wall. It was quite surreal and scary crossing from West into East Germany. After the wall came down, well made Russian Poljot and Slava (etc.) watches began to be sold in the West. I have a few 17 and 24 J and they are nearly indestructible. The ones later mass produced for export don't come close.
