Funny, I've heard it's likely to rise this year. Hope it hasn't gone soft...

My broker doesn't like "car stocks" but I think DCX might be worth a look.

Other than that, I plan to put more money into an IRA - Smith Barney Aggressive Growth Fund A (I think they have a B and maybe a C too) - it has done pretty well over the past 15 years and I should have started adding money to it long before now. It's worth about 7 times more than when I bought it. Not too shabby for those few years!

I'll be marking my first full year of active investing in the market this March and my YTD returns are looking paltry at about 6% but I look at it as an educational experience (I gotta have some skin in it to learn). For 2007 I'm still looking at gold because of the liquidity situation (foreign central banks diversifying their dollar holdings). The fed can't raise rates because of the slowing economy and inflation is still kickin so I think there's still upside here. Oil is big on my ten year time line so I'll keep my SLB (also levered to nat gas and I need an energy play). I like the water thesis, with billions of people requiring access to drinkable water. In this space I have been in the ETF (PHO) which behaves eerily similarly to the Russell 2000, but I think I may pick some companies like SZE (French water utility) or SBS (Sao Paulo Brazilian water and sewage company) or CLWT (small cap chinese water company). Maybe a basket of them? I'm considering biotech although I'm not very knowledgeable about the sector, but I've been watching PTN (aphrodisiac drug in Phase III trials) ARNA (obesity and diabetes drugs) and BMRN (which has some weird crap with enzymes which is supposed to be big $hit). The one that is really compelling is the vanity medical company AGN (I admit its a Cramer pick, but he's right sometimes) that has Botox, breast implants, dermal fillers and all that other crap baby boomers are going to want when they get older.
A hot pick IMO is TTWO which sells the Grand Theft Auto Series. Buy it and hold until GTA4 is launched this year. I think there's a trade there.

I think that the "worst economy in the last 1000 years" talk will quiet down now that the Dems have some power. So i think that the California Real Estate crash that kept my home's appreciation down to 5% in 2006 will end by Spring.

Otherwise it is all mutual funds for this squirrel. I fight too hard to make my money and keep a bit away from the tax man to be in anything other than long term growth stuff.

Of course, sugar and .22 long rifle ammo will be good barter items after the decline of Western civilization. Mutant biker gangs will need to be traded with for protection from other mutant biker gangs. So I have sacks of both in my garage.

I'm going to be investing in assault weapons. Once the liberals get something banned, prices go up. Look at how much it costs to buy anything fully automatic since they were banned in 1986. A weapon that cost maybe 1000 dollars at the most, now goes for 7,000 and up. If you don't believe me, here are a couple links:
