Your face?

Recall that earlier generations faced down fascism and communism not just with missiles and tanks, but with sturdy alliances and enduring convictions. They understood that our power alone cannot protect us, nor does it entitle us to do as we please. Instead, they knew that our power grows through its prudent use; our security emanates from the justness of our cause, the force of our example, the tempering qualities of humility and restraint.

Sorry, but having spent some years working with classified material, I can assure you Berger got off easy. If it had been most anyone else they would have done significant prison time.

Once information has been classified as Confidential, Secret, Top Secret or above there are established procedures for the handling and disposition of each item. Stuffing them in your underwear, leaving the secure facility, and then storing them below a trailer is not one of the criteria that any normal person would follow.

What does matter is the substance of the material that was stolen. Were there issues that were potentially damaging to the Clinton administration? Or (for all you conspiracy nuts out there) better yet, was Hillary involved with these documents and Berger was just trying to protect her political viability?

I believe there is an outfit suing the Clinton library to release the documents, but since they are classified and it has not been 12 years since classification they are unwilling to release them.
I wonder why if it has nothing to do with national security?

He got a slap on the wrist for what he did, he should be sitting in the slammer or busting rocks some place down south.

1. It is newsworthy and thus, worthy of discussion.

2. Mr Berger was one of the most influential people in the USA on security policy issues. ANYTHING he says or does, said or did, concerning his job is by definition, important.

3. Unlike speculation concerning the deliberative process, this is actual fact.

4. After the various actions of the Bush administration, the preceding administrations' deliberations and actions were the most important factors leading to the events of 9-11-01.

Viewing these factors in a partisan light is short-sighted, bad citizenship and just plain f-king stupid.

So you are admitting that your viewing things in a partisan light is short-sighted, bad citizenship and just plain f-king stupid? That's a good thing, and it was time. Confession is good for the soul, and very much in the spirit of Christmas. Now you can go forth and better yourself.

I have to tell you, it's really funny the way these guys try to deflect the conversation when one of "their guys" gets caught doing something wrong. It seems it's always insignificant, immaterial, or isn't germane. It's obvious that "Sandy" stole classified documents, one would think even "they" would be at least interested in what was stolen.

The ones who are "deflecting the conversation" is you guys, digging up this old chesnut in the hopes people will be distracted from the GOP murdering our fucking kids everyday in Iraq.
