American troops lead a group of Iraqi children in a profane chant, as seen in a video viewed by RAW STORY.
In the brief, undated video at the site liveleak.com, a U.S. soldier appears atop a military vehicle as another mills about, directing the children to shout, "F*ck Iraq." The youngsters, though smiling, do not seem to understand what it is they are saying.
The soldiers have a laugh, presumably at the childrens' expense, with one at the end heard saying with a chuckle, "Oh God, that was so wrong."
Morbid humor has long been a tradition among soldiers in combat zones, and the Iraq war has been no exception. Recently a video of an American G.I. taunting an Iraqi boy with a bottle of water made the rounds of the Internet, reportedly leading to a Pentagon investigation.
Do you think those kids are going to respect us after they find out what they were told to say?
What part of our training that we paid for is making our boys do stupid shit like this? Or is it a cultural thing? Maybe it's part of getting back at them for 911?
Jillian80 said that since the net was cast wider for army recruits, the standards for recruitment went down. That being the case, this kind of thing shouldn't surprise anyone. It's just stupid, not a war crime. Perhaps an admonishment is in order, it's more about journalism with nothing better to do.
It's a little late to be talking about winning hearts and minds, at this point. The troops are there to maintain order but 70% of the Iraqis want them to leave anyway.
The insurgents on both sides have no regard for human life, even their own, witness the carbombs, human shields and indiscriminate slaughter of people.
That's where the outrage should be directed, if you ask me.
Could it have something to do socio-economically with our "volunteer" army?
That's a thought, does it fall under cultural? We have many subcultures based on socio-economics, could this be one?
I was hoping that proper training would have made more uniform soldiers that belong to one culture but I guess I am an idealist. Hey guage I challenge you to tell me what's wrong with this picture?

It's at 90% now and climbing.
I am not outraged at the barbaric methods they use; Saddam knew how to handle them with equal or greater force. We were never equipped to stay in that country. We are very good at invading but we suck at the occupation game.
Oh, and Jillian was right! See above challenge for guage.
I think it is somewhat cultural. But I'm inclined to believe that it is a lack of education. Be it from our public school systems or our military's training techniques. Most of these kids are either recent high school graduates or GED. I don't think there are too many college grads enlisting. And those that do are fast tracked to OCS (Officer Candidate School).

They should spend time in jail.
The kids didn't know what they were saying? How about this...the morons involved just volunteered to be IED detectors. How is that for turn-about?

There were other dudes when I was in the DEP (delayed entry program) in high school that were total fu**ing scum and doubt much has changed. How some of the passed the ASVAB,I'll never understand.

There were no IEDs before we occupied their land. They are IED detectors as you put it because our leadership has failed to see how they got in here in the first place. They are a victims of our incompetent leadership but the kids are a victims of much more than that. So next time when you try to turn the table around think again.
We are paying dearly for those mistakes and those kids will make us pay for them even more down the line. Just ask yourself again why do they hate us?
The ASVAB can be passed by the ability to scribble your name.
It's by no means an excuse, but these guys are first trained to dehumanize the "enemy". Next, they're told to be nice as the former "enemy" will embrace them with loving arms as they're welcoming the liberation. After a while, they can't tell who the enemy is and who's not. Add in exhaustion, frustration and knowing that some of these kids may be setting the IUDs, and you get a certain level of apathy.
It doesn't have much to do with opened entrance standards. It has to do with 18 and 19 year old boys expected to mentally keep it together and be on their best behavior. Meanwhile, their friends are back home drinking beers, racing cars and banging their girlfriends.
