Strip Club Shooting in Mass

A witness who was outside the Foxy Lady at about 7 p.m. Monday — just hours before the shooting — said she saw Mr. Marandos, Mr. Carreiro and Mr. Medeiros near the club entrance, arguing. Mr. Medeiros left, yelling "I'll be back for you and for everybody," the witness said.
Other witnesses who knew Mr. Medeiros said he used his knowledge of the Foxy Lady's security and schedule to aid him in his assault.
Just before he entered the strip club around the 2 a.m. closing time Tuesday, Ned Tsouprake, a security guard, found that a phone in the foyer was not functioning. Staff cleaning out the club yesterday said the line, along with others going into the Foxy Lady, had been cut.
Jaime Tavares wasn't at the Foxy Lady Tuesday morning. She had quit last Friday. Sources said she did not feel comfortable working there, given the dispute between Mr. Carreiro and Mr. Medeiros.
According to club staff, Mr. Medeiros knew that, and knew she wouldn't have been around when he showed up at the club with his rifle. But he would have known that Mr. Carreiro and Mr. Marandos were working, they said.
"He knew when to come, and he knew how to get in," Jeff said.
Jeff and other staff members said the Foxy Lady is normally a safe place.
"It's a safe place, it's family-oriented. There's a lot of love here," the anonymous female employee said.
Mr. Marandos and Mr. Carreiro were targeted there because it was where they worked, and a shooting motivated by personal revenge could happen anywhere, employees said.
"A family member, they can stab you in the back to try to get with your baby's mother, then something like this can happen. ... It could happen to anybody," Jeff said.
Candles, flowers and a copy of the CD "Release Therapy" by rapper Ludacris sat on the small memorial to the slain men. A handwritten note referred to Mr. Carreiro by the nickname "Indian Joe," which friends said he picked up when he had long hair.
Leah, Ms. Tavares' best friend, visited the shrine. She lit several fresh candles and, embraced by a male companion, stood staring at the shrine a full 10 minutes.
She said staff members at the bar are upset that the news coverage seems more focused on the police than the murder victims.
Nothing will make things right, she said.
"There's nothing anyone can say that will change any of this," she said. "They're gone and they're not coming back."

"It's a safe place, it's family-oriented. There's a lot of love here," the anonymous female employee said.
Gotta love that quote.
