Ohio Rep. Kucinich to Run for President
Dec 11 3:56 PM US/Eastern

By CONNIE MABIN
Associated Press Writer

CLEVELAND

Democratic Rep. Dennis Kucinich, who unsuccessfully ran for president in 2004, said Monday he is planning to run again because his party isn't pushing hard enough to end the war in Iraq.

In a statement, Kucinich said he plans to formally announce his candidacy for 2008 on Tuesday at City Hall, where he served as mayor of his hometown in the 1970s.

The liberal, anti-war congressman said he was inspired to run because he disagrees with the way some of his fellow Democrats are handling the war in Iraq, including approval of a proposal to spend $160 billion more on the conflict.

"Democrats were swept into power on Nov. 7 because of widespread voter discontent with the war in Iraq," said the Ohio lawmaker. "Instead of heeding those concerns and responding with a strong and immediate change in polices and direction, the Democratic congressional leadership seems inclined to continue funding the perpetuation of the war."

The anti-war message was also the cornerstone of Kucinich's 2004 bid, which drew support from some Hollywood celebrities.

He was re-elected last month to a sixth term in the House.

His previous presidential proposals have included a national peace department and a single-payer, universal health care system.

He's a gadfly, so far out on the left he gets no support outside of his district, which has got to be one strange place whereever that is. He never wins. He's just like the rightwing version, "B-1 Bob" Dornan. Who gives a shit.

Recall that earlier generations faced down fascism and communism not just with missiles and tanks, but with sturdy alliances and enduring convictions. They understood that our power alone cannot protect us, nor does it entitle us to do as we please. Instead, they knew that our power grows through its prudent use; our security emanates from the justness of our cause, the force of our example, the tempering qualities of humility and restraint.

-President Barack Obama, 1st Inaugural address

Well, we rest our case. A Useless Idiot, in black and white. The video leaves a little less to the imagination, and shows just how idiotic and vacuous he actually is.

No, I'm not kidding. "As sold", the invasion of Iraq was a tactical element of the global antiterrorism strategy. Gore wasn't saying that the strategies of either spreading democracy or fighting terrorism globally were flawed - he was saying the war in Iraq, which can't reasonably be construed as strategic in any manner - was in fact the strategic mistake.

Mr. Gore needs to be introduced to Messrs. Dictionary and Thesaurus.

I'm starting to think that you just don't like Al Gore.

Of the founding fathers who were southerners I believe only one, George Washington, set-up schools to educate his slaves and gave them manumission on his death. For those slaves too old to work after manumission, Washington set-up what amounted to a retirement plan.

The rest of the southern "gentlemen" opposed Washington's education of slaves and their manumission. Jefferson was instrumental in leading the Virginia legislature to pass laws forbidding education of slaves.

The issue was settled with great finality in 1865. Later formalized by amendment.
The analogy starting this thread tried to connect "slave trading" to foriegn policy. The closest, analogous aspect of "slave trading" to a federal national foriegn policy would be the kidnapping and transporting against their will, of African natives to the United States as a protected and endorsed "trade." Read your history. This never existed for the United States. In fact, it was prohibited by various States at or before the establishment of the United States of America.

Now, there was "slave trading" inside the US as you have noted. I don't see how even CubanCigar can presume an internal policy, which was not to make slavery a required practice, but to take no action to prevent it by leaving the decision on the subject up to each State, is analogous to foriegn policy. It is just a desperate grab at straws to try to make his personal dislike of Gore seem meaningful. It didn't work. Jim

Actually, it was being connected to "strategy", not "foreign policy". Neither I nor Gore were talking about Iraq or slavery in terms of a foreign policy blunder.

I think the trade of federal commissions to the US before we could establish your American "values" is just plain stupid. I can't believe you dumb ass people still refuse to abide by the foriegn policies that make FTL a valuable member the the place where people just type stupid shit and have no point. We must rekindle a fire that is cuba and Gore is the man to do it. Jim.
