Mine is a 280SL. It is actually a fine car for the current age, being moderately powerful and good on gas at the same time, but as a sports car, its a bit of a posuer. In the years I have been around these cars, the fastest ones I have been in are the Euro 350 and 500 SL. My friends 74? 350SL with a four speed was a fucking animal. The 500SL auto I got to drive was also fast, but not as exciting as the 350. I should have bought the 350 when I had the chance, but it was showing some rust and it scared me off. Now I see the investment guides calling it the most likely of all 107 models to have high collector value.
My dream car is a 107 5 spd 500SL.
I have been told there was a 107 420SL produced in Europe, but none were sold in the US. Is this true?
Recall that earlier generations faced down fascism and communism not just with missiles and tanks, but with sturdy alliances and enduring convictions. They understood that our power alone cannot protect us, nor does it entitle us to do as we please. Instead, they knew that our power grows through its prudent use; our security emanates from the justness of our cause, the force of our example, the tempering qualities of humility and restraint.
