Justice is a crap shoot. He got a bad set of dice. But as long as everything was nice and legal, well then, too bad. I just really have a hard time with a dope dealer with a gun. I bet the jury and the judge did too. Show me a kid with a joint who pulls 20 years, and I'll get excited enough to march with a sign. Show me a guy making dope deals with a gun in his pocket, and I'll show you a guy who is willing to kill someone over dope. Goodbye, go away, get in your fucking cage.

Recall that earlier generations faced down fascism and communism not just with missiles and tanks, but with sturdy alliances and enduring convictions. They understood that our power alone cannot protect us, nor does it entitle us to do as we please. Instead, they knew that our power grows through its prudent use; our security emanates from the justness of our cause, the force of our example, the tempering qualities of humility and restraint.

Look, you guys want a real cause, a real injustice? This case is the worst in the country, three obviously innocent guys doing life or on Death Row. The whole case will make you sick:

Rent the DVD "Paradise Lost" and "Paradise Lost Part II", the HBO documentaries on these guys. Everything wrong with this fucking country sent these guys to jail.

Nothing to throw back. I haven't suggested that folks be imprisoned for crimes they haven't committed. And you're probably right about your kids, but there are a lot of good kids out there who make stupid mistakes. That's a big part of growing up.

Well, I would never carry a gun 'cause I'm a lousy shot.

Now, if I ever decide I want to kill someone, at least I know I won't be in the pen that long.....as long as I don't have a joint on me when I get busted.

Most of the people who have posted here awhile will tell you I'm pretty conservative when it comes to crime. My next door neighbor, and one of my closet friends, is a Houston police sargeant. His kids grew up with my kids, and if anything happened to him it would be like losing a member of my family. They have the toughest job in the world, and as far as I am concerned whenever possible I will give them the benefit of the doubt. Same with jury decisions: they heard the evidence, I didn't. But I also want judges who respect the Constitution, which is why I belong to the ACLU. Ultimately we all want the same thing: a system where the innocent go free and the guilty are punished in accordance with the law.
