But there's a key difference, to me. One can easily OD and die on alcohol through too-rapid over-indulgence or prolonged over-ndulgence. Plus ethanol can wreck your organs and make you impotent. I'm sure somewhere some dolt killed himself by OD-ing on weed, but I haven't heard of it yet.

The worst that happens with a Cannabis OD is you may mildly hallucinate, trash a fridge, then go to sleep. In my experience. But it has been nearly 30 years since I've gotten trashed on weed. With potency up maybe it is possible.

There are other factors besides health as well. For example, during my misspent youth, smoking pot was often a social event. We would gather in a dorm room or apt/house and slowly get a buzz going via joint or bong. It took time and was accompanied by general fraternization and conversation. That scenario falls apart if one toke has you crawling on all fours or renders you incapable of making it to the bathroom in order to relieve yourself.

I recognize myself in the first scenario.

The second reminds me of the time I snorted PCP. That was one of those, "Gee, I wish I hadn't done that" thingies. Never again, thank you. I wouldn't enjoy weed that strong.

Especially after I retire. Old farts are difficult enough to keep focused.

I was pretty much over all that shit in my early thirties. It's no big deal, I actually enjoy the acid flashbacks now that I'm older.

In all seriousness, I think the people who carry it beyond that are pretty sad.

Recall that earlier generations faced down fascism and communism not just with missiles and tanks, but with sturdy alliances and enduring convictions. They understood that our power alone cannot protect us, nor does it entitle us to do as we please. Instead, they knew that our power grows through its prudent use; our security emanates from the justness of our cause, the force of our example, the tempering qualities of humility and restraint.
