Maybe Nuz can update us, but when I lived in Alaska in the 1970's, shooting and killing a man in the act of screwing your wife was less of an offense than shooting a moose out of season. It was expected for you to kill him so the view of the law was framed by that expectation.
I did meet an older sailor turned engineer in my past who thought the best thing you could do was just demand money. That way the wife got what she wanted, a strange dick to mount, the strange dick got what he wanted, a furtive fuck, and you end up getting cash, which is better than nothing.
