Bellum omnium contra omnes

How's your Latin? Any takers?

Recall that earlier generations faced down fascism and communism not just with missiles and tanks, but with sturdy alliances and enduring convictions. They understood that our power alone cannot protect us, nor does it entitle us to do as we please. Instead, they knew that our power grows through its prudent use; our security emanates from the justness of our cause, the force of our example, the tempering qualities of humility and restraint.

It is utterly amazing how right on the money Hobbs was. That is what we have created in Iraq - a Hobbsian State. If one follows the implications of that, it means the government in Iraq must be by his logic utterly powerless in Iraq. It also indicates, according to his theory, that these people had it better under Saddam.

Recall that earlier generations faced down fascism and communism not just with missiles and tanks, but with sturdy alliances and enduring convictions. Instead, they knew that our power grows through its prudent use; our security emanates from the justness of our cause, the force of our example, the tempering qualities of humility and restraint.

No, that is not correct, but the sentiment is noted.
