Thanks FTL,

The wealthy arabic states does not surprise me (some bought into the UK pretty heavily too), nor does China.

I also just remembered that the Netherlands owns/owned quite a bit here (Shell aka Royal Dutch Petroleum is perhaps the most obvious example), but I heard that several years ago.

Agreed here. Plus, I think despite Japan's lack of natural resources, they are doing pretty darn well in an economic sense.

Just because I want us to own all the oil does not mean that I'm a NAZI....survival of the fittest right? Nobody knows what's going to happen in the future and I bet the countries holding the most oil will come out on top. If people like me didn't exist America would probably not be as well off as it is now. Greed is good!!

Coveting the natural resources of other nations has never been a pillar of support for America's greatness. We would have a plethora of technically and financially acceptable energy solutions had we spent, as a nation, hundreds of billions of dollars on a goal of energy independence instead of pursuing this short term greedy goal of controlling Iraq's oil. Your thought process is flawed by its narrow range of considerations before selecting a path, and then unduly restricted by a lack of guts to go with a long term solution. Typcial of financial types - no vision of making the future better for the long term and for anyone other than yourself, and no balls to make bold decisions. Hate to say it Kamel Toe, but it sounds like you have a small mind and little genitals as well. Oh well, he's your cousin Prof - you learn him some new tricks with that pumpkin on his shoulders. Jim

What shall we do with the "nuisance" living above our wealth?

We're all meant to die one way or another. Heck, I might die today in a car accident if that is what GOD decides.

Not to suggest we don't need lots of people in America who are smarter than the Brits, but, I'll bet we can come up a long list of things we would all be fine with you spending your life on that would benefit us - the issue at hand is we don't have the right to spend your life on what we want, do we? So, if we would all just respect the fact that we have but one life to spend on anything or everything life has to offer, that life being our own, we might all be better off. There are things I would give my life for - but I would not expect anyone else to do so, so I would not ask.

As for military service in a time of war, well, given the poor record of those running this Iraq quagmire, I am not convinced that is a legitimate cause to ask anyone to give their life for - in America or in Iraq. In other circumstances there would be different answers. Jim
