Some folks don't have a choice where they work or what the pay is or what the conditions are. They just need a job. That does not mean that Walmart should take advantage of their need.

It is sad when six of the richest people in America run a company that pays so far below the Poverty Line.

There is always a choice, ask the Okies of the previous century. Sometimes the choices aren't what we would prefer. Nobody is recruiting Walmartians at gunpoint.

"Take advantage of...". Loaded language, that. That is a demonization of supply and demand. If being a Walmartian Associate was as demanding as brain surgery then Walmartian Associates would be able to extort similar incomes from the oppressed souls of Benton.

I think it is a wonderful thing that freemarkets allowed teh creation of tens of thousands of jobs for people with marginal education, ability, or ambition. Those people can use it as a rung on the ladder of self-improvement creating a better world for themselves and posterity.

Two or more can play the propaganda game.

The last time Wal-Mart here needed to hire 20-30 new hires, they had in excess of 3,000 people show up. Some waited in lines several blocks long over-night to get an application. Some came from out of town and out of state to stand in line. Our unemployment rate is 3.5% and most said they already had other good jobs. When our newspaper asked them why they wanted to work at Wal-Mart they said because it was a great place to work! How can you continue to spew that AFL-CIO hate mantra???

Just being "Liberal" doesn't account for that strong visceral reaction we always get when Wal-Mart is mentioned... I think he must have been circumcised there recently, even though he says he never goes. I've heard he plays Santa Clause there ever Christmas.

You still don't answer the "Living Wage question. You still don't answer the why it is OK to pay sub standard wages just because they only do clerk work. Paying below the Poverty Level is against everything this country built its moral values on and stands up and promotes to the world.

And as I said before, "FREE MARKET" is an economic system that only works in Parlor discussions and "in theory". In practice, you would fold in a week. Humorously, the clerk at Walmart, who has minimal expectation in their world would most likely do ok.

And just for a question, what propaganda game?

I sure did answer the "living wage" question. I simply refused to use the terminology of the socialist propaganda machine.

Free market.

The employer should try to pay as little as possible in order to maximize profits.

The employee should charge the employer as much as he can possibly charge.

The farmer should sell his produce at the highest market value, the oil producer should squeeze the last dime out of the crude pumped from his well, and the IT consultant should charge as much as he thinks his employer can afford.
