It is tragic, for him, his family, and for Lebanon. If there is another civil war (God forbid!) you can bet Syria will move back in "to help..." It seems that Syria is systematically eliminating anyone and everyone in authority that is opposed to them--and doing it in such a way as to create an atmosphere conducive to civil war. I hope you guys don't play into their hands.

Don't believe everything you think

Having fun picking on someone smaller than yourself, Prof?

Let's talk about Lebanon.

As long as the moral equivalency doctrine is in effect, Lebanon is fucked.

Add a day of misery to the history of Lebanon for every person who doesn't understand that an armed Hezbollah in Lebanon is the problem. Not an armed Israel on the border.

Add another day of misery for every operson who equates Syrian influence with American influence.

When the Lebanese people are ready to be free of foreign interference they will once again take to the streets by the millions.

But first they need to pick a side. Not that simple? Until it gets that simple, they are F U C K E D.

As far as Darfur is concerned, the UN will take care of it just like they took care of Rwanda. Once you get the draft you want in the US we can send troops there to help.

That's not what's happening right now, it's a political battle not a religious one. It's a battle between the anti and pro Syrian camp. Ironically, both camps contain Christians, but with different percentages.

Nope, that's not taking place. It's political assassinations that's taking place right now.

Lighten up Dave, I know that Lebanon is in a tight spot but it is hardly fucked as of yet. If you are so concerned about Lebanon where were you when Bush played dead when Lebanon was pounded to the Stone Age?
If you want to spar with me about Lebanon you have picked the wrong fight. I won't go into details but I have seen the civil war up close and personal and I think I had seen enough to understand that the rest of the world back then did not give a fuck as much as now. It's all lips service Dave; Bush comes up to a podium and plays it like he is compassionate about the Lebanese and "worries" that their democracy is being blown away by the "bad guys" yet he won't lift a finger when he was needed.
Lebanese people will survive as they always did. They are very entrepreneurial and have learned to turn misery into success stories. I have seen Beirut before the civil war, during the civil war and after the civil war and in all instances I have never met a prouder people like the Lebanese. If we want to help them then by all means we need to do so with honesty and good intent but if we want to use them as chess pieces like we have always done then I say hands off, we have done enough damage.
As to Darfur, I am not well versed on that area other than maybe Chad or Mali which are African countries I had spent time in. But I agree that the UN is impotent when it comes to human suffering in that region or anywhere else. I have my doubt about the UN in this aspect but that’s not all what the UN does. When I worked for the World Bank I used to deal with UNDP which was not too bad.

WE WON'T!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have some news or updates for you. Remember, you were asking about when our next move/protest will take place. Well, it's gonna be tomorrow. Ironically, it was the anti-Lebanese government (Pro-Syrian) who were planning to protest tomorrow for the resignation of the government. But they have postponed their action as a result of the assassination, and the pro-Lebanese government (anti-Syrian) will be the ones who will take to the streets to protest against political assassinations and say no to Syrian terror and support the current Siniora government. So we're moving from a passive status and waiting for what the other camp will do, to a proactive initiative. I'll be there for sure, and hopefully with some pics. But I'm sure you'll see it on the news too.

Another interesting thing to see is the difference in newspaper headlines from yesterday to today to show how an incident can shuffle back the cards.
Yesterday: THE PRO-SYRIAN ARE COMMITTED TO PROTEST AND BRING DOWN THE GOVERNMENT, AND THE GOVERNMENT SEEMS CONFUSED.

Today: THE ANTI-SYRIAN ARE COMMITTED TO PROTEST POLITICAL ASSASSINATIONS, AND THE PRO-SYRIAN CAMP SEEM CONFUSED.
