Tailgating – Whose fault is it anyway?

Do you find yourself being constantly tailgated? Are you forever being flashed by drivers behind you? These are common occurrences to drivers who are being tailgated. This begs the question of why? Why do you appear to be tailgated by other road users? Maybe it is your driving style that annoys your fellow road users, or maybe you are unaware that you are travelling too slow, of course there are speed limits and as it has been said many time before these are limits and not speed minimums, but driving slow is probably the major factor in the cause of tailgating.

The Tailgater;

There are course some people who actually go out of their way to tailgate other road users, there is no excuse for tailgating it is dangerous and probably stupid as putting pressure on a driver who may be nervous or just recently past their driving test can actually lead to accidents which may even involve other vehicles or pedestrians, the practice of tailgating does appear to be getting worse and with the amount of speed cameras and other traffic calming measures around, a tailgater is almost bullying other road users into breaking the law and getting caught on camera.

I never tailgate, preferring to keep a safe distance between myself and the car ahead. If there is someone driving slow in the passing lane, I will flash my lights from a "safe" distance. If they don't get over, it tells me that they are clueless or just being an a**hole, and I quickly pass them on the right. Sometimes I see them change over to the slow lane, but just as often they just stay right where they were.

There is never a logical, sane excuse for tailgating.

I tailgate at every home game. Just have to make sure the grill has cooled off before you put it in the back of the truck.

Just brake check them or let them pass and return the aggression.

I dunno. If there's plenty of traffic in the adjacent lanes, I like to slow down to about 10mph until the tailgater's head explodes.

Wasn't that the CHiPs episode where the Lakers stop by the off ramp CHP station for a pickup game with Ponch and Jon but the game broke up just as Bear was going to dunk over Kareem but he slipped on a twinkie that Grossie had dropped moments before onto the court and everybody laughs until Getraire comes out and chews out Ponch for pulling over another hot blonde for a "broken tail light" who turns out to be the head of a gang of thieves that specializes in stealing hearses whch causes a backup in California morgues until Jon realizes he dated her in high school and tracks her down through the high school reunion committee his track team relay team mate is in charge of and then EVERYCARINTHESTATEDRIVESINTOTHEFLAMINGMULTICARPILE UPBUTNOONEISSERIOUSLYHURT?

Then the guy's head explodes.

I did that a while back........... The knothead was driving a newer Cadillac and I had a beater Buick. He stayed about one car length back on a twisty two lane road, we were going about 55 to 60 mph. Brake checking didn't help either. I let him pass and then got about three feet off his bumper at the same speeds. All I could see were these two great big eyes in his rear view mirror. I guess he didn't plan on some one who didn't have all that much to lose as far as a car was concerned...............
