LBJ a racist? Give me a break. He championed civil rights, convincing Congress to codify reversed racial discrimination to right 250 years of wrongs.

They were a good set of laws until about 10-15 years ago when they began to be increasingly anachronistic and onerous. Personally, I think it's about time to give them up.

The closest one can get to labeling Johnson as a racist was his vocabulary. People who were not around in that time now look back on it with stereotyped eyes--anybody who used currently unfashionable racial labels was a racist. That's how we get Mark Twain as labeled a racist, even though he was one of the most outspoken integrationists of his time. For instance, Huckleberry Finn was a lampoon of white superiority.

Oh well.

If you wanted to find real racists before 1970 or so your best bet was the local Democratic Party hierarchy. The shifted over to George Wallace's party (forgot its name) and then splintered into various weird groups. Many recanted their former racism (like Sen Byrd) and remained Democrats, some changed to the Repo Party after the Repos discovered states rights (just enough to attract some voters, not in a meaningful way) and conservatism (same deal).

Damn Bot, I had The Master of Stupid and his watercarrier going. You stole my thunder, you and I may have known about LBJ but those great Democraps didn't. If they did, they sure as hell didn't think of it................

Hell, it was just a little fire, and we had the sheets out because we didn't want to get our pants dirty. The s'mores were excellent!

It's perfectly okay to give someone your job or your slot in school just because of the color of their skin. It's your fault, you know.
