Those guys just hate each other. If you have read them for 15 years they throw stuff at each other each time they get a chance. Both are right and both are wrong.
I hope you are right...

I am not sure that was intended as an insult. Those of us in 45 or so of the "other" states can never figure out why folks in California, NY, NJ MASS bitch about taxes and salaries and costs of living yet stay in those states. I have lived in both Northern and Southern California and New York and with the exception of a much higher cost of living they really don't have that much to offer. '

So maybe what FTL was saying was, move somewhere that you can afford to live, raise your family, save for their future and retire.

I use as an example my cousin who is my age, graduated from Cal Poly in 78, 25 year IT Admin/Sys Analyst, married, retired, no kids at home, 3000 sq ft home, Santa Maria CA. Also plays with cars as a post retirement avocation.

Both houses built approx 1960 [we have same attitude toward buying houses]
Both houses in middle class professional neighborhoods
His insurance $5000, mine $880 [both State Farm]
His property tax $7600, Mine $1270

Note that I live in one of the more expensive counties of the state.

Car Insurance
Both have 500E's, both full coverage through State Farm
His insurance, $2450, Mine $730 Per Year.
Premium Shell Today His $2.88 Mine $2.31

Of course he puts Regular Gas in his 2000 S430 and rationalizes it that Global Motors in Santa Barbara says that most all of their customers do. I can see why.

When Rubin was SecTres. He did not practice his philosophy but used a much more pragmatic economic model for the Clinton Administration. You would not have seen the reduction of National Debt or elimination of Deficit Spending during that Administration had Rubin exercised his personal philosophy of Economics.

He is correct that taxes are going to have to go up. We have ignored much infrastructure over the past decade that will need addressed [part of that during the Clinton years]. Highway spending will have to go up. Debt maintenance will go up. Debt reduction [???] Addressing Prescription Drug/Medicare costs. Growing welfare state. FAA infrastructure which is failing daily.

Most of these are NOT BUSH problems [with the exception of the Debt], they are just a byproduct of burgeoning boomer aging and failure to address the nations infrastructure. The largest generation in history is hitting the most expensive period of government support. SSI, Medicare, Medicaid all pick up the boomers in the next FIVE years.

"Last fiscal year, UC paid 496 people more than $300,000, up 54 percent from two years ago. The number of employees who earned at least $200,000 jumped 30 percent over two years to 2,275. "

Have a look at this PUBLIC list of just STATE employees. Our librarian friend is a CITY worker.
