I think I have mentioned this, I have met Howard Dean personnally. You would be surprised how opposite he is to the way he is portrayed in the media or by the right wing. He is actually a very humble guy, and probably failed as a presidential candidate because he felt deep down in side he wasn't worthy of it. He is not a person given to hubris. But in any case, my view is that the Democrats need to act like the opposition, and give the Republicans fucking hell. Mass murder and fascism deserves everything it's got coming to it.

Recall that earlier generations faced down fascism and communism not just with missiles and tanks, but with sturdy alliances and enduring convictions. They understood that our power alone cannot protect us, nor does it entitle us to do as we please. Instead, they knew that our power grows through its prudent use; our security emanates from the justness of our cause, the force of our example, the tempering qualities of humility and restraint.

I'm unsurprised that he is different from his media portrayal -- most people are.

He hides his conservative fiscal perspective pretty effectively. I don't know why he did that as it would have re-assured the free-marketeers that he wasn't some sort of socialist freaking nut.

Aaaaarrrrghhh!! (Sorry, I got caught in the passion of the moment).

Hey, he was set up because his conservatism was a real threat to Bush and Kerry both. It was a media assasination. He was an excellent governor and managed Vermont so well he was elected and re-elected time and again. The whole wild liberal thing was a crock. His election to DNC chair was actually the revolution in the Democratic Party - he kicked out the entire Kennedy-Jesse Jackson wing that were totally screwing up the image of the Democratic Party. If he can continue to keep them down, the Dems have a chance. Dean and Schumar represent a more deliberative approach. Bush will be done up with a scapel by the good doctor, not a meat-ax.

I wonder whether there is one Republican Hell, and another one for Democrats.
