I'm intrigued that both a socialist and a fascist made it into the Senate, running as independents. This independent party seems to be the biggest tent ever.

It's been trending that way but balks at liberal Democrats almost as much as it balks at conservative Repos. I think Webb's Reagan credentials hurt him with Demos ("He worked for Satan AND he doesn't like wimmin in the military???") and didn't help him with Repos ("We already have a Repo, thank you"). perfect storm for failure, despite Allen's frequent gaffes.

Actually, what really went wrong is that the strongest Dem, former Gov Mark Warner, didn't run. Webb is second string. Sad, given how close Webb came, Warner would have won. Allen really is a buffoon.

Recall that earlier generations faced down fascism and communism not just with missiles and tanks, but with sturdy alliances and enduring convictions. They understood that our power alone cannot protect us, nor does it entitle us to do as we please. Instead, they knew that our power grows through its prudent use; our security emanates from the justness of our cause, the force of our example, the tempering qualities of humility and restraint.

Someone must have had something on him - his dropping out was very weird.

John Kerry is speaking on CNN. I hope all the polls have closed!

Two more Republican incumbents just went down. Biggie is Curt Weldon, the "Able Danger" nut case. Other seat is in Ohio, bad bad news for the GOP.

Hey Jayhawk, Murtha has 61% of the vote. What happened to the "get Murtha" thing?

Webb may still pull it out, there is only 13,000 votes between them with 70,000 left to be counted.

Allen is goin' down -- either Webb wins or it's a recount -- just watch and see.

Jesus, the Dems could take the Senate! Unbelievable finish in Virginia!

Talent's vote count in Missouri looks good, but I just got the word that the big Missouri cities are not included in that, it is just rural areas. That one could go Dem too.

Brit Hume on Fox looks like someone just shoved a pickle up his ass.
