Trading range is a low of 80 to a high of 95. Figure out what you paid for it, if it is in the middle of that range put a sell order on the stock a little above what you paid for it, that will preserve your capital.

Recall that earlier generations faced down fascism and communism not just with missiles and tanks, but with sturdy alliances and enduring convictions. They understood that our power alone cannot protect us, nor does it entitle us to do as we please. Instead, they knew that our power grows through its prudent use; our security emanates from the justness of our cause, the force of our example, the tempering qualities of humility and restraint.

we do not conflict.

If the underpinning technicals were not available to the public then perceptions would not be dependent on the technicals. It would be owl guts, or Aunt May's tea leaves.

For example, think about the economy of the USSR (or any other state-controlled economy). The economy of the USSR did fine until they interacted with free economies. The resultant trend became well-known within the USSR. Folks in the USSR lost faith in their highly controlled system and then it collapsed. The lesson is that the economy of the USSR did not fail until the trade and quality differentials were widely known within the USSR.

Value only has meaning when we believe it does.

A lot of people who have been w/ a big company like UNP, as I suspect your grandpa had, tended to have most if not all of their investments in the one company they worked for. If so, I highly recommend you or your dad deversify the retirement holdings into many other investments. And if it is his retirement funds, it should probably go into very stable vehicles like money market funds and if there is a large amount get help.

Well, you may be describing the actual psychological effect called "relative deprivation", which is what really destroyed the Soviets. If I live in a ditch and you live in a hole, I don't feel so bad. If I live in a ditch and you live in a nice house, I feel like I am very poor. Television beamed into Russia showed people what they were missing.

Yep.

Free-flow of information will eventually destroy anybody who interferes with it, especially in a free society. If the USSR had been smart they would never have embraced perestroika. Information killed them.

The market will likely "tread water" for a while until it sorts out just how much damage the dems are going to do. Uncertainty, new regulations on business, minimum wage increases, and things like that will drive the markets down. If it looks like gridlock will be the new order, the markets could actually increase. Since I don't believe the dems will ever work w/ the President, gridlock is the most likely scenario for at least the next two years.

This political change is not likely to be good for the markets, however: Since 1949, stocks have soared 13.6% when we have had a Republican Congress and Republican White House, while they have increased only 6.6% w/ a dem Congress and a Republican WH, and 6.5% w/ a split Congress and Republican WH, on average, annually. That is a fact!
