I'm with FTL. They should just sell all their stocks and then kill themselves when the market continues to climb. Or, hell, they can just kill themselves now. Jim

That would fall in the "stupid" category. You lay out the old Republican saw that "Democrats raise taxes" without even thinking, or noting that both parties raise taxes.

A perfect example of a tax that was never debated or voted was W, with deficit spending raised your taxes by increasing the National Debt. How you ask? The Interest on the National Debt is $450Billion per year and is paid through the receipts of the Treasury [your taxes]. Since those payments must, by law be paid first, other services and expenditures come second and require either 1) a new tax to pay for them or 2) further deficit spending. That is a phantom tax. You pay it yet no one voted for it.

Stopping Free Trade. No one is for stopping free trade, however the Democrats ARE against unfair labor practices in countries that use prison labor to "compete" with US jobs. Same with Outsourcing. When American jobs go offshore, an entire tax-base is removed from the tax-chain. Short term Corporate earnings are better but long term economic outlooks, like the collapsing housing market, leave damage to the economic infrastructure.

Now, would that be the heated debate or the stupid part?
Not only that, but with a far rightwing Repiglican president in power, it is doubtful the Democrats could push through any radical program, and if they did it would have to include the support of a lot of Republicans. But more than anything else - the Democrats aren't going to do anything that will cause them to lose the support it took them twelve years to regain. They will go for programs where the Repugs have constantly blocked the desires of the US majority - stem cell research, a re-balancing of the tax burden off the backs of the middle class to the rich, national health insurance, real Social Security reform, a reform of the prescription drug treasury give away, real investigations of the Iraq War, all things that will receive wide popular support.

Recall that earlier generations faced down fascism and communism not just with missiles and tanks, but with sturdy alliances and enduring convictions. They understood that our power alone cannot protect us, nor does it entitle us to do as we please. Instead, they knew that our power grows through its prudent use; our security emanates from the justness of our cause, the force of our example, the tempering qualities of humility and restraint.

You've got to be kidding. I am very close with both of my parents, we all vacation together with my brother and his wife as well; I feel I am very lucky. My parents have been married 56 years and I owe them more than I can ever repay in gifts and gratitude and companionship.
I have been with my better half for thirteen glorious years. You can't even come up with something original when you try to insult. You are a totally manipulated lost soul.

PS I grew up in a Methodist church, with Methodist friends, and went to a Methodist university. Take your stereotypes and shove them up your fucking ass you little hater.
Just an interesting observation: Not once did Jayhawk call you any names. Is that all you can do? Surely you can debate the issues with him rather than resort to trademark liberal rants and name calling.

I am shocked to see that name calling and derisive ranting has come to Benzworld.

Yet, in general, the lad is one of the most profuse name-callers here. He has heaped his verbal trash upon me many times for simply voicing an opinion, even when the exchanges did not involve him. We reap what we sow.

As I mentioned earlier, I think he's my son. His mom claims I am, but has yet to get me cornered for the DNA test.

Maintain that strategy -- you really don't need that on your resume...

Several of you geniuses have been prognosticating the collapse of the US stock market for several years, during which time my S&P-based mutual has done rather nicely as have my Russell-based and my bond fund. Though the bond fund has been dragging its feet lately. But I'm in for the long-term and don't move stuff around but once per year, max.

Concerning the impending collapse, you will be right eventually.

Timing is everything.
