You mean things like:
"yes indeed. I can see the Democrats raising taxes, stopping free trade and putting an end to outsourcing. Economy is going to stop if that happens."
That would fall in the "stupid" category. You lay out the old Republican saw that "Democrats raise taxes" without even thinking, or noting that both parties raise taxes.
A perfect example of a tax that was never debated or voted was W, with deficit spending raised your taxes by increasing the National Debt. How you ask? The Interest on the National Debt is $450Billion per year and is paid through the receipts of the Treasury [your taxes]. Since those payments must, by law be paid first, other services and expenditures come second and require either 1) a new tax to pay for them or 2) further deficit spending. That is a phantom tax. You pay it yet no one voted for it.
Stopping Free Trade. No one is for stopping free trade, however the Democrats ARE against unfair labor practices in countries that use prison labor to "compete" with US jobs. Same with Outsourcing. When American jobs go offshore, an entire tax-base is removed from the tax-chain. Short term Corporate earnings are better but long term economic outlooks, like the collapsing housing market, leave damage to the economic infrastructure.
Now, would that be the heated debate or the stupid part?
