In Texas there is a loop hole that allows a person to have a concealed handgun while traveling between counties, a law that dates back to the Old West. The problem is, you have to wait in jail while the Sheriff decides if that is actually what you are doing. Otherwise, you have to have a permit. Pistol laws are so different and so easy to interpret differently for the police, it is extremely problematic to drive around with one if you are going to do any interstate travel. Federal law is also strange - it is not illegal to transport a pistol across state lines, but if you transport a pistol from one state to another state where your possesion of the gun violates local law, then it becomes a Federal crime as well, got that? In other words, if I drive from Virginia into New York City, and get caught with the gun in New York, I've committed a Federal offense, but if I hang a left and drive into West Virginia instead, its perfectly legal from a Federal viewpoint. Shotguns are much easier to move, they have all kinds of exemptions as a hunting weapon. If you want to be armed as you drive around the lower US, a pump is your best bet, I think they are only prohibited in NYC and DC.

Recall that earlier generations faced down fascism and communism not just with missiles and tanks, but with sturdy alliances and enduring convictions. They understood that our power alone cannot protect us, nor does it entitle us to do as we please. Instead, they knew that our power grows through its prudent use; our security emanates from the justness of our cause, the force of our example, the tempering qualities of humility and restraint.

My "flashing and hooting" was very mild relative to his extreme overreaction. I could not pass him and move on or I would have. There were other cars in the lane to my left or I would have tried to go around. The other problem was that I was trying to get into the right hand turn lane to go north. When the guy jumped out of his car and came running back that traffic stopped so as not to hit him, which is the only reason I was able to get around him. Besides, I really wasn't trying to antagonize. Many people are inattentive and just sit there until someone "reminds" them that the light has changed or the traffic has moved on. I had no idea the guy was "disturbed," or I would have set quietly and waited for him to decide what he was doing. But thanks for the challenges. It may help if I ever end up being cross-examined by his lawyer.

I accept it's what most of us would do, but the police would not advocate it and as TK says, a good brief could use it against you. Maybe you could have worded your report differently.

I'm sure I could have worded it better, but I didn't have all you free legal eagles to advise me. I just tried to be honest. I know that can be a problem in court, but it is what it is. If it is too bad, the DA will probably not prosecute so I don't think I have to worry. I still just hope this asshole can get some help before he does hurt someone. Thanks again.

I'm glad you appreciate our advice. Did you include the part about you being on the way back from buying meth from a male prostitute? I would have left that out.

Couldn't have happened to a nicer guy!. Maybe if he went through with it he would have knocked some sense into you. All kidding aside (sort of), that sucks!. Hope this guy does some time for this. It would have been different if he had known you first, and probably justifiable. J/K (sort of)

You really should learn to say what is actually on your mind. Come out of your shell!

Jay, I live in a subdivision that has a lot of wooded area and tonight my dog kept barking, When I investigated she had a Raccoon cornered in my back yard. There was something wrong with the raccoon as it didn't want to move much. My wife ask a county police officer to come out and take it to the game warden, to which he did come out and we got it to go into a cage. This whole event was very hilarious.
Anyway when the police officer approached the raccoon he took out a collapsable wand to poke it and I immediately thought of your ordeal, although I had to deal with Raccoon Rage.
