Oh yeah, when Carter was President and interest rates were 15%.

I forgot.

Those were good times.

Especially for Eastern Europe.

I read in Pravda that the latest 5 year plan ensured that Soviet citizens would continue to widen the gap between themselves and the rest of the world standard of living-wise.

Oh...you meant CLINTON.

High times in Rwanda. Didn't they have some kind of hutu/Tutsi music festival or something?

Isn't there some ground to be had between liberalism and fascim? Oh yeah, I think it's called conservatism.

You keep making excuses for him... He said exactly what he intended to say. He just put that familiar foot in his big mouth, again. He has distain for our troops now, just as he did in his '71 Congressional testimony, comparing them to Chingis Khan. Just more of the same, and he is being appropriately called on it, again.

I'm not sure how to go about solving this problem, but it seems clear to me that Iran is reacting to a severe threat from the U.S. in the form of the invasion and occupation of their neighbors. Had we not invaded Iraq, we might not be facing this issue at all...
I do not read minds but some how you are not going to convince me that if we had not invaded Iraq that Iran would not be trying to develop something nuclear. Iran has too be able to see for that part of the world they are holding all the cards, if they develop "the bomb" they figure the rest of the middle east will look up to them and they can do something that others have failed at and that is to unite the middle east. If it does happen that way, it is a scary thought.

I have no doubt that our presence in Iraq is a contributing factor here, though I could certainly not say to what extent. On the one hand, our presence there is extremely threatening to Iran, contributing to speculation that nuclear arms are the best way to stave off an invasion (ala Pakistan). On the other hand, our preoccupation and ineptitude in dealing with our invasion of a helpless Iraq makes us seem less likely and less capable of taking strong military measures to stop their little atomic foray. So at the same time, we appear more threatening and less fearsome -- not a good combination. To some extent, I would say this general theme also applies to N. Korea.
