Have you read the bill? I haven't. The chances are that not even the candidates have actually read the bill. Instead, everybody relies on "experts." Fox probably did, too. He's a pawn in the game as much as anybody.

Bot. I get it.

Trust me. I get it.

We have 8 billion dollars for the taking in California for as much embryonic stem cell research as you can eat. The money is lying around on the fucking ground waiting for people to pick it up and do research.

This is a non-issue. It ain't illegal. There is plenty of funding.

Does Fox live in Mizoorah?

I have a problem with demagogues be they left or right, shaking or not. Even if I don't know how to spell the word. Even if i am to lazy to spell check it.

I understand. I also understand that the rhetorical flourishes adoring this debate have less to do with the science of medicine and more to do with riling the base of each party.

If you guys think that abusing Fox, given his popularity and plight, is going to help your cause, you're on crack.

Ignore Fox. Stick to the point. Bring Fox into it and you'll be the November ogre that people vote against.

Bot.

I am dying laughing.

Risking the votes of the eleven people who post here (None of who are "undecided", by the way.) isn't a big concern.

But I get your point, my friend.

Frankly, I have no moral objection to any of this research. We are so far from cures or ghoulish clones it is a joke.

You do realize that for all of the talk and hand wringing, we are not much past the "crack an egg and separate the yolk from the white phase" of any of this?

respectfully yours,
Dave

The thing about biomedical advances (IMO) is that we are near bottom of the knowledge curve. About like 19th century industrialization. Somewhere in the latter half of that century the knowledge stream went into a manufacturing technology exponential growth phase. The fifty years or so between the 1880's and 1930's saw advancements in mechanical devices and manufacturing that has yet to show any signs of slowing.

But medical science, for all of its advances, has lagged badly. This is because the basic understanding of biology is still not on par with the physical sciences that underlie mechanical devices. While Newton's followers was putting math to mechanics, Linnaeus was still trying to figure-out how to name plants and animals. When Mach was giving tools to Einstein, folks were still arguing the godliness of Darwin. And so forth.

Only recently has the science and technology advanced sufficiently to fully describe an organism, but we still cannot build one. That is analogous to understanding aerodynamics but being unable to build an aeroplane.

I think biology (and its dependent fields of medicine) are in the equivalent of the 1880's. At any moment (and we wont know it until years later), a biologist like Mach will influence a young biology student like Einstein and the result will be unlocking the doors of life's creation.

We should all reread our Mary Shelley.

I really thought the Missouri Senate race was going to go to the Republicans. I am amazed at how well they are handing this seat over to the Dems. If they had let the Fox thing pass, it probably would have meant nothing, but their SOP is "attack, attack!" and this year it simply isn't working. MJF is an extremely sympathetic character, and in a world where Repugs are being called baby killers and torturers, going after him is only going to please their own red meat crowd, as we see so well on this thread here, while turning off soccer mom and pissing off the generation that grew up on his movies. The mushy middle is the battleground, the true believers on both sides are cast in stone. Bad play by Rush.

The same thing is going on in Tennessee, where the racist attack ad with the "nigger gonna fuck a white women" meme was the point of a GOP ad that ran for weeks. The result has been public revulsion, and this race, which I didn't think Ford could win in a million years, is now looking good for Ford. Maybe the age of personal attack and negative campaign is over.

Recall that earlier generations faced down fascism and communism not just with missiles and tanks, but with sturdy alliances and enduring convictions. They understood that our power alone cannot protect us, nor does it entitle us to do as we please. Instead, they knew that our power grows through its prudent use; our security emanates from the justness of our cause, the force of our example, the tempering qualities of humility and restraint.

Jayhawk, I don't know how you morons think you're going to win the stem cell debate when embyronic stem cells come from a bunch of jizz mixed with pussy juice. One stem cell being "better", what a stupid way to argue this. The embryonic cells are going in the dumpster anyway. I bet the dumpster smells like your underwear.

"...a bunch of jizz mixed with pussy juice." That must be the scientific explanation? I am so impressed w/ your understanding of the issues...
