The pecan has to be the best nut out there. Sure Macadamias are tasty and have a unique texture and pistachios are nice, but if you ever had a praline from one of those little old shops in the French Quarter. Wow!
The opposite of the spectrum are Brazil nuts. They suck so bad it makes me angry. Brazil nuts, you're on notice!

I was not aware that they are seeds within an endocarp so I'll cut them a little slack.

You show amazing insight for a non-professional nutter. The sad thing about Brazils is that despite their unpopularity and resistance to respond to just about any promotion, they are nutritionally an almost perfect food. However, one of the problems with Brazils is that very few have tasted them REALLY fresh. Like Macadamias, because of their high oil content (which is not very resistant to oxidation) they go off very quickly and then taste completely different. Unlike Macs, Brazils are not cultivated anywhere on earth but are a completely wild crop collected by native S. American Indians and as such their husbandry is completely haphazard. Frequently, they are collected and then stored buried in the ground for months until they can be delivered to a suitable market. This is also why they are so prone to being affected by Aflatoxin (produced by a soil fungus) which will give you liver cancer and kill you swiftly.Nice!

I personally consider cashews to be the king of nuts, especially for savoury, with pecans coming in second and best for sweet applications, but I'm not obsessive about it, really. Honestly. Nope, not me. Not at all.

Ahh yes, the saintly Cashew, also a favorite. Especially in-flight where it's niggardly distribution among ravenous travelers is akin to that of a controlled substance. One is always left with a hankering for more. The problem with Cashews is, invariably a large, rather jagged piece will lodge in the most far-flung regions of my mouth, often dislodging after-market dental implants on a cost scale that would rival a Renntech supercharger. The Pecan with its soft texture is the Wonder bread of nuts and deserving of such lofty praise, sweet, salty, spicy or in a Stuckey's Nut Log.
As far as not being a professional nutter. I did have the starring role in "The Sultan Of Browneye, you know.

It's a great word. I went to a magnet high school that was racially mixed. 40% white 40% black and 25% other. The math department was horrible but I digress. Freshman year we had this lilly white suburbanite English teacher who upon calling out the word during a pop quiz turned as red as a beet. All the black kids snickered while we all took inventory of our feet for a while. Funny how you remember that stuff, Anglo guilt being what it is.

Why is my font weird?
