I may be the only one who finds the Bush Administration's response to the rabid war chanting by the North Korean Crazy HMFIC to resemble a sympathic resonant response, but how in the hell can we have someone in the same time zone take the opportunity to goad this whacko in the international press and media by making declarations of how we intend to honor our treaty with Japan and defend the Japanese against any and all North Korean acts of aggression. One bonehead is off trying to establish us as the world's greatest evil with only thinly disguised intentions to attack the North Korean people, citing the UN sanctions as evidence, and the other bonehead is telling the world in similarly shrill tones how we will defend Japan against any threats from NK, which is only serving to bolster the bizarre claims of Kim Jong Il of the intent of America to attack him, inside his country.
Read the quote below and tell me this is not on a par with "Bring 'em on" and "if you're not with us you're against us" in its absolute uselessness to our national interests:
"
The top U.S. diplomat said she reaffirmed President Bush's pledge, made hours after North Korea's Oct. 9 underground test blast, "that the United States has the will and the capability to meet the full range — and I underscore the full range — of its deterrent and security commitments to Japan."
Rice spoke following discussions with Japanese Foreign Minister Taro Aso, the first stop on her crisis mission to respond to the threat posed by the North.
Back home, President Bush told ABC News that if the U.S. learned North Korea was about to transfer nuclear technology to others, the communist nation would face "a grave consequence." He did not elaborate.
"I want the leader to understand — the leader of North Korea to understand that he'll be held to account," Bush said, referring to the country's ruler, Kim Jong Il."
This is another case of a "no-diplomatic-talent" core in charge of the United States' foreign policy. We cannot afford this stuff anymore. That sentence was appropriate for a closed meeting with the Japanese, but it cannot be taken as anything but confrontational and challenging to a desperate despot from a culture that cannot back down without some avenue to "save face" from an equally emotionally and strategically bankrupt administration when it is blurted out in an international press conference by Bush's chief "diplomat" who will later say "no one could have known that little taunt would precipitate a nuclear confrontation in Asia" a year from now. Unbelievable.

NK cannot be construed as anything but serious, dead serious. Their leader is as whacked as ours, and we all know two of a kind do not play well together.

Just as Al-Qaeda gained control the United States' ME foreign policy, and Sheriff Bush has accepted the role of merely reacting "in kind" so to speak (demonstrating extraordinarily poor judgement) to their strategy to engage us in a Vietnam-like war of attrition where the cost of human lives is essentially irrelevant to Al-Qaeda, now we have the Sheriff calling out wigged out Kim Jong Il for a shoot out at the OK Corral. It is like he thinks, in Hugo Chavez's words to the UN, he owns the world, and in his world there can be no circumstances more complicated than a John Wayne Western. Or, maybe a Clint Eastwood Spaghetti Western. Because he can't handle anything that isn't reduced to black and white. This is unbearable! Get this destructive, sick minded bozo a job where his outlook on the world is no more influential on global events than the wino at the end of the bar:
"Bush refused to spell out how the United States would retaliate. "They'd be held to account," the president said in an ABC News interview.
In light of North Korea's Oct. 9 test detonation of a nuclear bomb, Bush warned that any transfer of nuclear material elsewhere in the world by the North would be considered a grave threat to the security of the United States. He previously used "grave threat" in relation toSaddam Hussein, whose government was toppled in the U.S.-led war in 2003. "If we get intelligence that they're about to transfer a nuclear weapon, we would stop the transfer, and we would deal with the ships that were taking the — or the airplane that was dealing with taking the material to somebody," the president said. Asked how he would retaliate, Bush would not be specific, "You know, I'd just say it's a grave consequence."
"The leader of North Korea to understand that he'll be held to account. Just like he's being held to account now for having run a test," Bush said."
He must want Kim Jong Il to remain in power there as he is only making that madman's ranting sound reasonable. Why is it that we can't lead by any means besides threats of war anymore? Jim
Would you be any happier if Bush would've sold him our technology?
Basically what you think is that since Iraq, NK started building a bomb
and did so in 3yrs!
Lets pass a UN resolution, that puts the fear into nobody.

OK Mr. Statesman just exactly what would YOUR response be? Tell us just exactly what YOU would do.......... It really gets old hearing you, and others like you, routinely disparage the man, and offer absolutely no alternative.
Here's your chance, show us the great statesman in you rather then the bullshit artist.....

A succinct and accurate analysis. Bush just needs to do something with his hair.
