I'm having to vote independent for gov in Texas this time too. I feel sorry for Strayhorn getting my vote as this means she is bound to lose.

You would be the first to admit that the Republicans of those days would be Democrats today. It is also well known that in those days the Democrats were the conservative party. Modern Republicans descended from the Southern Democrats who split from the party in the 60's. Modern Democrats descended from Progressive Republicans who split from the Republicans at the turn of the century.
