OK, edumacate me -- I'm bracin myself fer sum new lernins. Every war in the history of our country has had a single easily described and defined reason behind our participation. Name that single easily described and defined reason behind our participation in Iraq.

Don't expect anything straight (I know you aren't holding your breath), Jaybird admitted the WMD thing was just a pretext to get public support behind the Iraq invasion.

Yeah, that was boo. At least boo doesn't seem deluded about the situation, like most Iraq supporters. In my mind, that moves him into the company of Botnst and MikeMover, a small minority indeed.

What's delusional about that small minority, is that they still support the fiasco, given all the failures, missteps and immoral abominations that have happened since the outset. No bridge is too far, and no dollar outlay to great to weaken their cheerful fealty to an absolute disgrace.

Perhaps, but that speaks to a moral compass, rather than an alternate reality. It is a step up, at least in regard to rational debate. I mean, you can't even have a discussion with someone who dismisses reality.

That's not close to accurate. You may not have noticed but my posts in regards to Iraq are reflexive of the opinions of others rather than advancing my own opinions. I enjoy taking cheap shots at what I consider faulty logic when folks criticize the current involvement, mostly in terms of how we got there.

But as to what I think should be done, I don't think I have ever opined in this forum. You assume that the combination of attacking the logic of others and not attacking the current strategy and tactics means that I support the current strategy and tactics.

That is the same class of assumption that believes that my reasons for invasion are in conformity with the administration's. I have, ad nauseam, described my own reasons for supporting deposing Saddam. I also think that the Administration's reasons are logically supportable, but I don't believe they were necessary or sufficient for me.

Thus, I support the invasion and deposing, but not for the Administration's reasons. I support staying in Iraq and Afghanistan, but not using the current strategy and tactics. I see no point in belaboring that. You guys do enough interminable pointless squabbling without me stoking the fire.

Thank you for your interminable pointless post.

Recall that earlier generations faced down fascism and communism not just with missiles and tanks, but with sturdy alliances and enduring convictions. They understood that our power alone cannot protect us, nor does it entitle us to do as we please. Instead, they knew that our power grows through its prudent use; our security emanates from the justness of our cause, the force of our example, the tempering qualities of humility and restraint.
