These men need to either be held as war prisoners in POW camps, or turned over to the courts for prosecution. They need to be allowed contact with th Red Cross, as set forward in the Geneva Convention, or they need to be in court, to be tried and sentenced for their crimes. This creation of a Soviet-style Gulag, which you cheer for and hope for, has got to be the lowest point of this entire mess - to spend two centuries and millions of lives fighting this - now you wish us to become it - a nation that holds people under a presumption of guilt, incommicado, without benefit of oversight, to be tortured or to simply disappear - is that what you want, you Soviet appartchik? No fucking way, man, not in my country. You guys are becoming a threat to liberty itself.
Spin it however you want. Playing by a set of rules that are foreign to everyone else doesn't make us noble, it makes us vulnerable fools. If "these men" (the terrorists) were observing the rules of the Geneva convention themselves, we wouldn't be having these discussions. How high and mighty - how "Holier than Thou", to proclaim that our nation is one of underhanded fascists out to imprision everyone indefinitely. This slope is not as slippery as you and the half-witted academian alarmists and left-wing congressional wannabe's would have everyone believe. There are CLEAR MARKS that dilineate between civilians and terrorists, not the least of which are their STATED INTENTIONS and ALLEGIANCES to those organizations whose sole purpose is the extermination of our lives - yours and mine. This government - OUR Government, is NOT on a McCarthyan campaign to jail anyone who smells faintly of communism. Neither of us are privy to the detailed backgrounds of "those men" being detained, but I'll bet my paycheck that they are NOT innocent, misunderstood school custodians. The people being held in detention are there for GOOD REASON. I appreciate your skepticism, but I respectfully submit that the fire burning it has grown out of proportion.
If you think you can have a nice chat before the increasingly radical muslims (growing by leaps and bounds every day) drop a bomb or bust a cap on you, and they'll just say "Oh, glad to hear you understand, I'll move on and kill the next infidel", you are dangerously delusional. I'd almost go so far as to say your views could potentially endanger your children - left to their logical ends, they certainly endanger mine.
This is a war. It may not fit into the neat little arrogant, 4th grade description of a war that you hold so crucial, but it remains a war nonetheless. In this circumstance, we should do whatever it takes with regard to these people to eliminate the threat of further attacks or deaths of innocent civilians - or at least, we should do whatever they would do to us given a similar opportunity. There's your new Geneva convention rules.
