The bottom line for all of this "weirdness" is that the bounds of "reality" are simply well beyond the scope of our perception. In the interim, the mind-boggle factor has grown considerably with the still emerging but promising revelations of M-Theory. It's difficult to fathom that all of this incomprehensible complexity will lead the beauty and simplicity of ultimate truth -- at least that's the idea behind the GUT.

There's an interesting book that challenges current string theory. Haven't read it but it's reviewed here: http://www.slate.com/id/2149598/?nav=ais

You could read it and not read it at the same time.

And he's not alone. There are plenty of problems with string theory -- enough to have spawned significant opposition. I believe that opposition is essentially misguided at this point, regardless of whether they're correct or not, since they fail to propose an alternate avenue to explore. At this point, string theory is undoubtedly a valuable stepping stone, one that may eventually find a resolution, or alternatively, one that provides important bits and pieces that will eventually lead to another path. Either way, it holds great promise.

Q: Why are quantum physicists so poor at sex?
A: Because when they find the position, they can't find the momentum, and when they have the momentum, they can't find the position.
