What about handing it to the police? Or are they not that honest over there?

I found a tithe envelope with 5 bucks in it once, no name or church name. What was I to do? I ended up buying a six-pack of beer in a higher caliber than usual.

Hey, NZ. I wouldn't think of it as a question of honesty in the PD. Over here it depends on local regulations. They'll impound it and if it's not claimed (sometimes for like a year) the rules may return it to the finder, or in some cases it escheats to the local authorities or to the state. My rule of thumb has always been that unless there's some suspicion of criminal activity in the way you find it then there is nothing wrong with securing it while you look for the owner. Nor is there anything wrong with turning it in to the PD, which saves you the trouble of looking for the owner.

Keep in mind you are strapped for cash and if it is real you can solve some financial problems.

Hmmm, what to do, what to do.
Tell the little ol lady I will sell her the bracelet after one month of no claim at full retail like she would charge me.

Uh huh... The only question here is - are you an honest person or a dishonest person.

Will you raise your daughter to be honest? If you do the right thing, this would be an excellent example for her.

The meaning of theft - knowingly taking something that doesn't belong to you.

Found out today that the bracelet is cosmetic so I guess my daughter is getting some bling that I found on the curb. I was going to take it to the store to see if anyone had claimed a lost and found but I wanted to find out if it was real first.

Thanks for the input everyone, you all helped keep me honest.
