This was the tip-of-the-iceberg neocon conspiracy theory. The story was Wilson was about to go public with info that would discredit the Niger yellowcake uranium ore purchase by Iraq so Karl Rove and Dick Cheney (who else?) attempted to discredit Wilson by disclosing Mrs Wilson, a CIA covert agent, in order to imply that Wilson could not be trusted.
Weeeeelllll, that wasn't quite it, now as it?
It turns out that the Whitehouse didn't reveal anything nor did they do a cover-up. In fact, didn't know anything to cover-up, Armitage never told the Whitehouse anything. Apparently Fitzgerald knew this BEFORE he indicted Libby.
So, here's an interesting question for you conspiracy buffs out there: Why did Fitzgerald continue his Whitehouse investigation if he knew that
a) the Whitehouse wasn't responsible for the leak and
b) Libby didn't know who leaked it and thus, couldn't be covering for something he didn't know about.
I love this stuff.
Oh yeah, and all you gentlemen who were convinced it was Rove & Cheney that leaked, etc. Got anything to say?
