I just wish they did things a little more like Top Gear. Make it a little more interesting and fun.

Speed seems to be a little more serious. Klaus (sp?) took the SL65 to 180+ mph on the autobahn!!

I think that we should compare stock to stock and tuned to tuned. The 997 TT is more than a match for the SL65 performance wise but if we are looking at a tuned SL55 (or 65) then the appropriate comparison would be against RUF RT12 which can be had in horsepower ranging from 550 to 650 HP and top speed of 218 mph.

I'm not dissing the SL (I traded in my R129 for the p-car). It just appeals to a different audience. There are times that I miss the luxury of my SL but the performance of the p-car more than makes up for that IMO. No more SLs for me.

The K2 SL55 squeezes out 500 something bhp doesn't it?

If you actually read the thread, you would've noticed the 997TT was still slightly faster than the K2.

I understand.

But my point is that it's not meaningful to compare tuned cars with stock cars.

E.g., a NA car that is turbocharged with an aftermarket kit was not designed from the beggining to operate at the higher boost pressures etc. Aftermarket kits also will often void the manufacturer's warrantee.

A more meaningful comparison would be on the basis of price. E.g., a stock 997 TT well optioned for 140 K to an SL55 in that price range. Performance wise the 55 gets creamed largely based upon its massvie weight disadvantage.

What I miss are the olden days light weight versions manufacturers had to build a minimum of 1,500 of, to homologate for racing. Imagine how some of the packages would perform in a 1,000 kg car.
