Hey Zeitgist! I think they're angry.

Recall that earlier generations faced down fascism and communism not just with missiles and tanks, but with sturdy alliances and enduring convictions. They understood that our power alone cannot protect us, nor does it entitle us to do as we please. Instead, they knew that our power grows through its prudent use; our security emanates from the justness of our cause, the force of our example, the tempering qualities of humility and restraint.

Thanks FeelTheLove,

That has to be one of the most dramatic photographs ever taken of a combat situation, and I've always liked it.

May Mr. Rosenthal's memory remain as poignant as that great work of his.

A professional flag burner always uses diesel. That's what he gets for using gas. (Note, I made this exact same joke the last time someone posted that picture. Come on guage, its your turn)

The father of a lady I work with was on Iwo Jima. He laid in a foxhole for three days with the rotting corpses of Japanese soldiers, one who had strapped grenades around his waist, pulled the pins and jumped in the hole to commit suicide and taking the others with him. He said the smell was etched in his mind forever but he would not talk details- ever! He passed on in 2001. There's not many men alive today who have the balls that those WWII vets and heros had!
