Guage,

Photos like those are difficult to interpret as you are trying to do. You need the stuff the taxpayers fund to see the details you are looking for. The resolution of the photos shown is far too crude to show debris in the streets or the actual conditon of walls of bombed out buildings. You need what Uncle Sam has, and would have been tracking WMD movements within Iraq, had there been any WMD so the UN inspectors would be able to find them. The kind of resolution that lets you identify the drivers of the vehicles or, in this case, the size and location of broken down structures, showing you which floors were blown up and which walls remain.

This stuff was not around in WWII and so there was much uncertainty with the results of a bombing run. Same in Vietnam. The U2 was used in Cuba and some other places but once they were being shot down the detail needed had to come from space. And it does. Jim

Good point Jim. I've heard, or read, that the satellite photos after they are properly processed, are detailed enough to read a license plate on a parked (and maybe moving) auto - that's some detail if you ask me.

How high are they when in orbit anyway, 10 miles or so?

Regards,
M

M, are you from this century? Or do miles and feet and inches just have you confused? Jim

I am sitting here watching CNN, where thousands of Lebanese are all cheering "Hezbollah". They certainly don't look too defeated.

Sorry, I should have said terrorist colleagues. That wasn't very professional of me was it?
