The people of Venezuela have been screwed by some jerk dictator or another ever since their national hero, Simon Bolivar died in poverty, his dreams of democracy and liberty betrayed and his life shattered by the ruling classes.
Venezuela has had many chances to broaden the opportunity for its people and has recoiled at every turn. Power has shifted from one member of the ologarchy to another with no noticeable effect from the advent o fdemocracy and changes to teh constitution. For the poor people of venezuela--most o fthe people, Chavez has been more than a blessing, he's been a liberator.
Mexico is more than likely to learn the same lesson unless they figure-out how to embrace true liberal reform. Any bets?
PS Chavez reminds me of Aesop's frog pond fable.
