I am sure you can fill it with the Nobel price winners etc etc but let's stop for now.
Never did anything for this country, period.
Did a lot of bad things to this country.
They want to kill us, they want to kill themselves,it's kind of un-American, don't you think?
Just having a light conversation with friends, you know..
So guys you live in the USA, you owe everything to this country, you drive nice GERMAN-MADE Mercedeses like I do...
I think it is pretty obvious. America is not obligated to join the Arabs and Israelis, or take sides, as they engage in some unending battle to destroy themselves and anyone they can drag over the event horizon.
I also think when people take citizenship as Americans, America assumes no debt to their forefathers' homelands or sects or religions or races because they made a contribution. Hopefully Americans contribute for the betterment of America. It is still a free country and if you want to become an Israeli or Arab to support their causes, or side of a conflict, do it.
The Arab sympathizer characterization is intentionally inflammatory. In the case of Iraq, no sane person would believe, at this time that invading Iraq was in America's best interest. Sympathy, if that is the word, comes from the eroding of America, and what America has struggled to stand for in her history, as we murder innocent people. They happen to be Arabs, but the revulsion at what we have done has nothing to do with them being Arabs or of another part of the globe. Yes, I feel horrible that we have killed children. And women, and men who had no part in any plots to do America harm. And, I understand how killing their women and children may cause them to hate us. I also find the fact that some Americans believe all this is ok, repulsive.
So, I think you confuse the basic American ideal some of us subscribe to that involves respecting human life and dignity, and the importance of doing the right thing with Arab sympathy. And that is the real issue. Some see the fact that it is Arabs we are wronging as somehow less of an affront. Like we as a nation used to believe blacks could be owned by whites. Most of us have given up on that concept. And now is the time to apply our ideals evenly, even to Arabs. It is also time to end the appearance of blindly supporting Israel. All of the UN established Israel, and all of the UN owns the problem. It is not an American problem alone. I would suggest the borders inside Israel for some distance be patrolled by UN peace keepers. Until a few generations of Arabs and Israelis get to live in peace and this urge to kill each other diminishes. But the problem is not uniquely an American problem. America, as we have shown the world, has plenty of its own very serious problems. Jim
