I think Dali's self portrait does a much better job of expressing his moustache.

Perhaps a real Renaissance painting, by Raphael:

Thomas Moran, Bierstadt, I just love landscapes done well. Repeat well. Hudson valley school possibly my fave.

Good art is wasted on MBZER, probably because he is wasted. I'm sure he will be posting pictures of those frigging turtles next But for the rest of you, a Vermeer, and Shane, that is a fabulous painting.

Penny for her thoughts! Looks like a dreamy gypsie. Very unusual in that day and age to have such a quality potrait of a lowly girl. Must have caused a ruckus.
Eyebrows plucked, lips painted, garish earings, clean bright clothes to attract the next victim. Innocent look but just look at her body, turned away and distant, black background that only adds brilliance to her smooth as marble face with bright gray eyes (wolf eyes). Such contrasts, such audacity, deep irony, talent, and attention to detail. Very much a winner!

Vermeers are extremely rare. He only lived to be 43, and left maybe 30 paintings or so behind. His paintings of women are haunting, because you actually experience them as living, breathing human beings even tho they have been dead and gone for three hundred and eighty years. No one captures the vitalityof human life like he does. Here is another, of someone unknown and long gone, whose face you can look into as if she was alive in the next room:

I like the idea of both phallic and vaginal imagery presented within one canvas
