Potentially bad juju. http://leda.lycaeum.org/?ID=47

Extremely important item: The genus Amanita has some amazingly toxic species. Some of them look very much like edible fungi collected in eastern Asia, resulting in numerous deadly poisonings over the years. Some of common names that are interesting like, "Angel of Death." It has two toxins, the first makes you sick for a day or so and you begin to recover while the other one gradually breaks down the membrane structure of the mitochondria, from which you are unlikely to recover.

Enjoy.

B

PS Psilocybe is less dangerous and easier to positively identify. Unfortunately, it looks superficially like yet another deadly Amanita.

Yeah, I wouldn't try any white ones (Death Angels).

I know there are white ones in the family that won't kill you, but I wouldn't trust my ability to distinguish between them.

In your area the only fungus of which I'm aware that you might mistake with A. muscaria is a Russula (can't recall the species). It wont kill you but you'll be vomiting and trembling for a day. http://images.google.com/images?svnu...ca&btnG=Search

I saw that too. Those are usually blackened in the center top of the cap. Sounds like bad news.

They say the secret to these mushrooms is soaking them in 190 deg. water for 20-30 minutes to turn the muscarine to muscimol. Not that it would kill you if you didn't, but it turns the poison into the affective component, smoothening the effect.

Agreed. It was in poor taste.

I apologize and I have deleted it.

It was a poor attempt at humor.

(However, I will not be making any contribution to CAIR as restitution).
