Thumbs down It Failed

The emissions test failed. I got worse results then the previous test.

Test on April the 3rd:
HC
Std 1.4 GPM
Reading 1.5454
FAILED

CO
Std 30. GPM
Reading 8.275
PASS

NOx
Std 2.5 GPM
Reading 2.26.57
PASS

Today's test, August the 2nd:
HC
Reading 1.7748
FAIL

CO
Reading 10.5848
PASS

NOx
Reading 2.9835
FAIL

I failed on two fronts this time.

THIS CAR IS WORTHLESS: mad:
I adjusted the fuel air ratio using a scope just like the write up that's circulating, I even took the air filter out to let more air in. I warmed up the car, took for a good hour drive to heat everything up then I went for the test.
The O2 sensor is new by the way, all plugs have been replaced and I just changed the oil. I have a feeling that it is the cat but with this car you never know. Frankly I am tired of it, it's been a good five years and it's time to see it blown up just like what I wanted to do the first year I got her and the of course it never passed emissions even then.
I am emotional right now as you can tell but as soon as I feel better I am going to try that big hammer I got to drive 4X4's into the ground

Obviously it's your car and you can do with it as you please. However I think it's a terrible waste to destroy an example of what is quite possibly the greatest car ever built because you're frustrated with it, especially when there weren't all that many 560s made.

If you've had it with the car, the most logical thing to do would be to sell it. Destroying the car isn't going to make any difference to it, obviously, since it's an inanimate object. You'll lose whatever money you could make by selling it, and as I just pointed out, you'd destroy a wonderful automobile.

Past:
1967 250SE Coupe | 1986 560SEL | 1987 560SEL | 1973 Buick Riviera

Current:
1975 350SE [grey market, stick shift] | 1987 300D Turbo | 2007 Subaru STI Limited

"Officially" convert it to natural gas/LNG and get it smog exempt. Got that from the president of the SD MB club when I met him pulling parts for the 1st gen Euro SEC he just bought. He says it's a slam dunk...figure it out.

Get a reputable mechanic (an oxymoron sometimes) to put a scope on the car and find the real reason. You could have something as simple as a bad spark plug cable cause this. A vacuum leak from one of the many potential failure points, a sensor that gave up, an EHC module that went south.

I've heard that jumpering the air pump so it runs the whole time you're being tested can make a difference (then remove the jumper).

This is not hard, it just takes someone with knowledge to rectify it.

Can anyone recommend a GREAT indie in the Baltimore area??

In progress - FrankenBenz SEC: GM LS6 5.7L engine with custom 4L60E 4-spd overdrive transmission, GM rack and pinion.
One of my goals with the FrankenBenz is to scare women and children, and to have Lexus drivers spill their latte.

I forgot to mention that I jumped the air pump and yeah I did an EHA test with my scope. That's how I adjusted the lean mixture but apparently under a dyno test things went the other way, go figure!
All wires are fairly new but the spark plugs are brand new. The distributor and cap are good.

There are no reputable mechnics except for one but it he would not do work where I supply parts. I need to save $$, but I guess after five years I figured this car is not for me anyome I have spent on it more then five times what I bought it for. I think I should be in a league for idiots by now, give me credit for that at least.

I don't know the details, but apparently you file paperwork for a conversion and register it with the DMV...doubtful they will send out somebody to your house to check on it. My car passes smog just fine, so I never had to look into it but if you are that desperate, I'm sure the info is obtainable.
