I heard a report on TV today (don't know if it's true) that the civilian death count in Lebanon has been revised downwards to about 400 from initial estimates of 600+. Now some will say "so what?" To which I respond that if it doesn't matter to you why are you keeping count?
In one sense I do agree that it doesn't matter if the civlian death toll in Qana is 28 or 60. The blood of these civlilians is on the hands of Hezbollah. They have made the cynical choice to mass their troops and arms in civilian areas knowing full well the shock value that these deaths have around the world and giving us images of barefoot Pakistani youth rioting in the streets of Islamabad on the nightly news. They are the ones who have made it nearly impossible to distinguish friend from foe by dressing in civilian clothing. And yet they manage to convince gullible people on this forum that the "real reason" for this is because this militia, armed and funded by one of the wealthiest oil producing nations on earth, "cannot afford" to supply them with uniforms. But they can afford 12,000 katusha rockets and counting. No the reason they are in civilian clothing is because it is to their political advantage to have the Lebanese civilians suffer casaulties. Unable to defeat Israel on the battlefield they are trying to defeat them on the stage of world public opinion. And, in this they are succeeding.
And the media has either been complicit (or too gullible) in accepting the Lebanese govenrment's count of civilian casaulties.
Make no mistake about it. Israel will win this war. South lebanon will be Hezbollah's Stalingrad where they raise an heroic but ultimately futile defense. And your children will read that the history books have recorded the defeat of yet another arab army on the bloody soil of south Lebanon.
