No, that will never work. Try "We're making progress. It's hard work. But we're working hard, what I mean to say is, progress is being made. Freedom isn't free, unless of course when you get your grandchildren to pay for it."

I had mentioned a proposal to Baby Boo last night (maybe early morning) about having Turkey as a mediator and I explicitly said that the US should butt off because it will be the usual fuck up. The idea here is to stop this war by isolating Hezbollah and making Syria a partner in the talks that would in addition involve Lebanon and Israel. This could be a breakthrough and if Syria plays along they have much to gain. Iran will be shunted as secondary bonus from these talks and Hezbollah will be dramatically weakened which will force its hand to capitulate and let the Lebanese Army represent it's people. I think Turkey would be the best element in this equation given that it has good relationships with Israel and not so good ones with Syria but they have tolerated each other for awhile. We the US need to keep Iran busy while all this is going on by pestering the shit out of them about their nuclear program and even threaten them if we have to. That's my opinion on how this can be an option.
Give me some credit, please.

Hamas and Hezbollah are Shiites. The nutjobs in Al Queda are Wahabbists. We're dealing death with both and both have visions of bringing their particular vision of peace and justice onto planet Earth.

500 years ago folks in Europe had a choice between Protestantism and Roman Catholicism. Each group butchered the other for heresies. We (western democracies) are rather tired of God's Holy Sword and that's the primary reason we're the "Great Satan." Hence, my argument that whichever group we appease by adopting tehir version of Sharia the other will want us dead. It would be like a Buddhists moving to Worms or Lyons, 600 years ago.

Concerning Turkey, I remember you scoffing at my suggesting exactly that a week ago. Welcome aboard.

Hamas is Shia, I think. I am not certain. But that's short Google away.

Damned if I'm going to search through that crap to prove a trivial point.

It was this: I hypothesized that after Israel emasculated Hex that a European force, led by France, would enter the disputed area and have the mandate to disarm belligerents within their area. Americans would NOT be involved because we are perceived (correctly) as being too biased in favor of Israel. Later the European force, after stabilizing the region, would be augmented and finally replaced by Muslims from some countries not involved iwth the conflict and that have no belligerents involved. I suggested Tunisia, Morocco and Turkey. (Also Kosovom just for giggles).

You are talking about forces to wedge themselves between the warring parties. That's not what I proposed. As matter of fact this idea of a buffer zone policed by foreign forces no matter where they come from is not going to work because it never has. What I am proposing is a mediator entity and a meeting to negotiate a final agreement where everyone will live in their sovereign territories and spare us the burden of paying for their armament and other "social programs"
