Oil tanker take over, trial run

In 2003, an LPG tanker in the Strait of Malacca was boarded and commandeered by what at first appeared to be pirates. Pirates are quite common in that region. The 'Pirates' never tried to rob anyone. They insisted to be shown how to maneuver and operate the ship and left afterwards without harming the crew. Echoes of Florida flight school and 9/11?

Aren't there playstation games with realistic controls?

The big question is, how much did it make the price of oil spike?

It was kept quiet, and remained mostly unpublished. Two good sites are: www.maritimesecurity.com , another informative is: http://eaglespeak.blogspot.com/ . Who the backers of the latter one are, doesn't take too much imagination.

This story is very much real, but it was kept quite. The best way to learn how to operate a tanker, is to take the helm.

This attack is very disturbing because to board and take such a ship is a pretty major undertaking. Not to mention risky to ones life. So something worth while would have to come from it, maybe it was knowledge.

All in all such incidents are troubling.

Refrigeration keeps LPG stable. Turn it off, and you have a giant floating bomb.
