Go back and read the previous posts. That is precisely the argument that I made, above. Now go explain it to GS.

You cannot analyze one's ambitions while ignoring him. You put these concepts in the context of being mutually exclusive, yet nothing could be further from the truth. Cut off the head and the body dies.

Since I do not know these people personally and my telepathic skills are nonexistent, I cannot divine their ambitions or their motivations or their morals. Most of them are skilled communicators that convey sincerity and honesty while they stomp puppies and steal from the blind.

Heck, I cannot even be certain of what my wife of over 30 years is thinking, damned if I can channel some politician.

So I look at their history and who they hang out with and who they cite as various authorities for different sorts of problems and ideas. If I don't find them too repulsive I might vote for them. Mostly out of fear of their even more repugnant political adversaries. I gave active support to a national politician once, Jimmah Cahtah. That was a wonderful lesson taught and learned and the last time I genuinely gave a damn about a politician.

Acting like Bush invaded Iraq out of the blue one day is ridiculous.

I would be perplexed if we went to war with Jordan all of the sudden.

But Iraq?

The war in Iraq started a LONG TIME BEFORE BUSH II took office.

Clinton presided over a period where we did not have troops on the ground, but a lot happened in the 90's.

Once upon a time, there was a thing called the "cold-war".

Iran was a huge oil producing region, and we didn't want the USSR in charge. So the CIA helped put the Sha in power, circumventing the will of the Iranian people. They eventually threw him out during the revolution and took our embassy hostage demanding that we return the Shah to face trial.

Iraq invaded Iran in 1980 figuring that it was a good time to attack since the US was no longer supporting Iran and the revolution had Iran in turmoil. The US backed Iraq. We were pissed at Iran, and didn't want the USSR gaining a foothold in the area.

Nice site...pretty objective.

I don't think that folks who support Bush are cultist, unless they are functionally retarded. He is in no way, even under the most compelling circumstances, inspirational. Certainly not in the way that Lenin or Hitler were to their people.

I completely agree with the remainder.
