Ever since Watergate many Americans have found that it has been necessary for oversight of the government since the government has had a strong tendency to abuse its rights and overstep legal bounds at will. It was thought that Congress would provide oversight for the executive but that never worked out. Justice, with the FBI should have been the likely candidate but John Mitchell was right in the thick of things. That left one group. The press.
Through the press we have found out that the FBI kept files on all Civil Rights protesters including MKL and others. We also found out they kept files on every politician including the President, Attorney General and members of Congress. And of course that J. Edger wore women’s underwear.
Through the press we found out about Watergate. If you don't know the details, READ.
Through the press we found out about Reagan's Arms for Hostages with Ollie North, GHWB, the Nicaraguans and Iran.
I am not even going to list the W incidents [for sake of brevity and redundancy].
The mainstream media, of which Fox is actually one, is out to make money. Period. They are also made up of people who want to get out information. My last SysArch gig before I retired was with CNN and part of it was setting up electronic signoff mechanisms for feeds, stories and photos. [I DON'T KNOW JACK ABOUT NEWS] but I know how many signoffs had to be cleared before a story could go on-air. Personal opinions could not make it on air unless you were a Lou Dobbs or Bill O' Reilly type.
Look at the positive side of the Bank story. Now the bad guys will have to figure a different way to pass money and not know if there is oversight on that method also.
Being smart is knowing the difference, in a sticky situation between a well delivered anecdote and a well delivered antidote - bear.
