In the abridged for you provide, you're correct. But I think a quick review of the Book will indicate that Yaweh doesn't have a problem with executing the guilty and there's a whole list of things that will get you executed that follows in the same chapter that you quote. Things like homosexuality and adultery, for example.

Just one of myriad contradictions from the text... It seems to me that a "commandment" should be taken literally. Once you adorn or obfuscate it, it becomes a guideline rather than a commandment.

Oh yeah.

The way I think most people explain it is that an offense against man is bad but an offense against God, well you're toast now and for eternity. So God dictated a list of things that especially offended him and what to do about folks who did those things and also, how to get back into God's good graces after you messed-up. It usually involved killing birds or livestock, so God isn't a big proponent of vegetarianism and animal rights, either.

The Ten Commandments are like a preamble, laying the general rules. As you get into that book he gets pretty darned specific.

Yeah, I know -- a god who partakes in genocide and infanticide, but -- well, never mind -- it's just too silly to even discuss really.....

As w/ most things, you left-wing wackos fail to see beyond the end of your noses: Killing a defenseless, unborn child is bad! Killing a murderous, perverted scumbag is good! Daaahhhh! At least Bert knew the difference between good and bad...

Don't believe everything you think

What about a defenseless, born Iraqi child?

McBear,

Being smart is knowing the difference, in a sticky situation between a well delivered anecdote and a well delivered antidote - bear.
